HHO On a Budget

Simpler, Cheaper
I am getting very positive response from people about these pages. Most like the idea that they don't have to spend a bundle to try HHO. In that vain, I am presenting a few ideas that would make it even cheaper.
Thermometer
You could use manual switches to control the fan(s) and heater by watching a simple pocket thermometer such as above to keep the temperature within range. It would be inserted in a hole in the top of the box between the cells. I would still use the LEDs to tell me what has power.

A power switch could replace the vacuum switch I used.
Economy circuit
Try the local computer repair shop for a bad power supply and remove the fan. Tell him/her you want it for a science experiment [which is true].

Stainless works ok for the negative electrode, so don't go for the titanium. Titanium is better, but may not be worth the extra expense to you.

Mount the 4 power resistors in the heater directly to the aluminum plate. This would save having to buy the aluminum angle. The aluminum plate I used came from a cake pan. Attach the resistors with J-B Weld. The 1 ohm, 10 watt resistors came from Radio Shack for $2 a pair.
Heating element
This plate is the size of 6 Mason jelly jars.

I started this project using expensive nylon barbed fittings. The 1/4" fittings made for lawn drip irrigation are MUCH cheaper. Use a good quality vacuum hose to make the jar manifold. I got 5/32" from NAPA. It is supple enough to be a pleasure to work with.

The next set of cells did not have expensive nylon hardware and spacers. I cut a thin section of hose (maybe 1/8") as a spacer, and made a figure eight through the holes with Dacron fish line.

Instead of nylon insulating washers, I drilled a series of holes the size of the SS screws in clear plastic packing material and cut squares out. The positive screw terminal hole in the jar lid has a 1/4" hole. A washer is glued to it with Goop, taking care to make sure it is centered, and allowed to dry. A second homemade washer is glued to the other side.
Voilą... an airtight insulated feedthrough.
